A Sacred Mountain Path to Enlightenment
Mt. Shichimen is 1,982 meter high, famous for its spectacular view of Mt. Fuji. The trails have been used as training grounds for mountain ascetics since ancient times, long before Nichiren Shonin recognized it as a sacred mountain, called Shichimensan out of respect both to the mountain and the Dragon Goddess, Shichimen Dai Myojin who protects the mountain and the pilgrims.

Just two hours from Tokyo by train, you can reach the foot of Mt. Shichimen. Hike up the legend-filled pilgrimage trails and discover the unique spirituality of Japan where Buddhism and Shintoism found unity. A Pilgrimage to Mt. Shichimen is believed to clear all your karmic debt from misdeeds that bring you closer to Enlightenment. Near the top of Shichimensan, Keishin-in Temple has served as a center of spiritual practice for centuries. Visitors can stay overnight to experience the life of Buddhist practitioners.

The splendor of sunrise over Mt. Fuji
Dawn on Mt. Shichimen is when the veil to the spiritual realm becomes thin. At the top of stone steps near Keishin-in Temple, you will reach the viewing area. As the sea of mist in the valleys starts to clear, the sun rises over Mt. Fuji. On the spring and fall equinoxes, the sun rises directly over the peak. The majestic light leads many to feel that they have been purified and all of their misdeeds have disappeared.
